Summerhill Preparatory School is situated amongst spectacular pristine riverine forest in the Hazyview area of South Africa. It is an independent English-medium pre and prep school, catering for children from playgroup to Grade 7.

Its unique situation along the banks of a perennial stream makes it one of the most beautiful schools in the area, lending itself to much outdoor education.

Summerhill is a registered ISASA school, with full provisional UMALUSI accreditation. It is open to all families, believing in the value of a good, sound education in a safe, nurturing, and loving environment.

A Message From the Head

We are a VALUES-driven school, from Preschool right through to Gr7. Children earn/work for BRICKS in order to build VALUE houses. Summerhill is first and foremost a family, where each child knows every other child by name.
We use the most internationally-acclaimed curriculum for Maths and Science (Singapore). We are members of ISASA and have full UMALUSI accreditation.
The Gr 6 & 7 pupils use FGASA (Junior Level 1) as their core curriculum for Geography, which covers the CAPS curriculum, but with many more exciting add-ons. By the end of Grade 7 they have their FGASA Junior Field Guide certificates.
We are committed to transformation and diversity.
Our Christian ethos guides our every move.
All grades are taught Knowledge Network (nationally-recognised and externally-examined) for IT in the school’s ITC, which is fully WiFi’d.

We provide extra-curricular activities and we compete in core sporting disciplines, encouraging healthy, life-long, lifestyle choices.
As a member of the local conservancy, we are committed to GREEN education, through practical activities in the Eco-Adventure Clubs.

Our History

In 1997 a handful of parents founded Summerhill Prep School. Eleven children started in a renovated garage on a farm. Today we have a beautiful campus nestled in riverine forest with a little stream running at the bottom of our property. We pride ourselves on the relevant education we provide, having introduced the Singapore Maths and Science curriculum a number of years ago. Our Grade 7s also write the FGASA Level 1 (junior) external exam at the end of their Grade 7 year. A committed and qualified staff constantly stretch themselves to incorporate modern and up to date content, thereby preparing our children for an ever-changing world. We welcome visitors any time and would love to have you pop in so that we can show you our beautiful school.
